Methodology
How every StockFinz AI signal is generated, measured and closed. No headline win-rates: we show each trade, including the losing ones.
1. Data
Prices are NSE OHLCV candles from the Upstox public market-data API, with Yahoo Finance as a backup. Fundamentals come from Yahoo Finance, with screener.in as the backup. Shareholding comes from exchange filings via screener.in.
2. Indicators (one shared engine)
Every screen uses the same indicator service. RSI(14) uses Wilder smoothing on daily candles; MACD is 12/26/9; ATR(14) uses Wilder smoothing. Because the dashboard, asset page, AI chat and AI agents all read the same numbers, the RSI for a stock is identical wherever it appears.
3. Entry, stop and target
- Entry: a pullback level (toward VWAP, at most 0.5×ATR from the current price), not simply the current price.
- Stop-loss: 1.5×ATR from entry for swing setups. Intraday agent trades risk at most 0.5×ATR, capped at 1.5% of price.
- Target: 2× the risk (a 1:2 risk-reward). A second target at 3R is shown for reference.
- NO TRADE: if the technical, fundamental and news reads don't agree, no levels are published. The AI agents are told the engine's verdict and cannot contradict it.
4. How trades are closed
We replay each trade candle by candle after entry. A trade closes at the stop or target price on the first candle that touches it. If a single candle touches both, we assume the stop was hit first. If the price gaps past the stop, the exit is the opening price. Intraday trades still open at 3:15 PM are squared off at that session's close, so an intraday loss can't grow into a multi-day loss.
Long trades gain when the price rises. Short trades gain when the price falls and lose when it rises.
5. Reading the results honestly
Every agent lists its trades with entry, exit price, exit time and the result, whether that is a target hit, a stop-loss or a square-off. Losing trades are never hidden or averaged away. These are theoretical, analytics-only results: they exclude brokerage, slippage and taxes, and they are not investment advice.
